Esperance, just beautiful

Passing through a few towns that were tricky to pronounce...

We stopped to stretch our legs and have lunch after a couple of few hours on the road...

The kids found a fun little park while I made ham, cheese and tomato croissants...yummy!

We met a young hitch-hiker, Iyfan, who was here from China. He was headed to Esperance too, so it was no big deal to share the ride and learn about another country on the way.

We passed a mine of some sort but it wasn't signed to tell us what they were minding.

We entered the Shire a long time before we got to the town.

Beautiful farming country

Arrived!!

We found a lovely caravan park, right across the road from the sea. We got a site right at the front.
The showers were warm, the bathrooms were clean and management were lovely.

Ahhhh, the view....

If he wasn't fishing, he was here, taking in the scenery.

We saw our friend Iyfan, walking passed our bus and invited him for dinner. He bought with him traditional home cooked food. We all shared and the kids even got taught how to use chopsticks. We had loads of fun. He is travelling around Australia as a student, being sponsored by National Geographic, who ask that he share his photos and information for their magazine...

Checking out the local wares...

Guess what this is??!!
Fish leather!!...yep, you can get leather from fish...who knew...

We found these lovely pieces of jewellery and though of little Eva. How I wish I had my beautiful handmade necklace with me...I love hers much more than these!!!

Gorgeous church in the Village.
They even had a sign inviting visitors to take vegies if they needed them...great idea for a church!

The children picked up tourist packs from the information centre and look what was in them...
A Keep Australia Beautiful pack...it got put to good use straight away.

For those of us that don't know what they are looking at above, its a 'bale elevator'...Phil used to have one at the farm.

What a beautiful view as you come over the crest of the hill.

We stood at the top of the hill for quite a while just taking in the magnificence of it all.
The colours, the sound and the sheer size of it!!

While others decided they would rather 'Keep Australia Beautiful'

The sea spray was something I hadn't seen before. It was at least 2ft above the wave.

Can you see the horse rearing up?

Look at the sea spray and the colours!!

This windmill was actually working. Fresh water so close to the sea.

Around the corner, yet another beautiful view.

This explosion was the wave hitting the rocks before it got to shore.

This is the iron ore train coming into Esperance Port. It was roughly 1km long, each carriage full.

A very clever idea for a focal point at the foreshore.
Made of timber and steel and although you cannot see them clearly, there are pictures along the top part of the tail.

A very pretty wharf, where Phil had to do some fishing. I preferred to take photos.

Inseparable...

This one was Esther being made to hook up her own line for the first time. Realising what you are actually touching...disgusting, smelly prawns or worse still...kangaroo (with fur)

"Ewwww!!! It touched me!!"

These two were quite funny...Eliza decided she would rather feed the 'nemo' fish...before Benjamin caught it...it escaped, with lots of cheers from Casey and Eliza.

Ohhh he was so proud of this one!!

Eliza keeping herself amused while Phil and Esther fished till dark.

Filleted ready to cook.
While Phil was doing his "thing" in the kitchen, I ordered some chips from a small little takeaway shop just down the road. They made yummy sweet potato chips and their pickled onions were the best!! They even through in a 2Lt bottle of soft drink. Very generous and I hope they do well with their new venture.

Lovely fillets.

At the end of the day, enjoying a laugh together.

We've had a good couple of days here at Esperance but its time to move on towards the Border...
